Campbell County Judge Executive Steve Pendery said, “Many residents of Campbell County don’t realize that, not only do we have a tradition of great parks and green spaces adding to the quality of life here, but our own A.J. Jolly Park, established in 1961 is one of the oldest and largest county parks in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. A. J. Jolly encompasses over 1,000 acres, with lakes, horse trails, nature paths, campgrounds, a performance pavilion and many other attractions.”
Some of the improvements that have been made are new bathrooms, new playground equipment and a refurbished ADA accessible boat dock. There is also a new parking area at Morscher Field. Some of the improvements still to come are kayak and standing paddle board rentals and possibilities for swimming and other water activities. The park is also planning more events.
In 2015 the park issued over 3,000 daily park and horse permits and hosted the Sun Valley Music Festival and the Festival on the Lake which had a combined attendance of about 8,500 people.
Weekend camping will start April 29th at A.J. Jolly. The Sun Valley Music Festival will be held on July 9th. It is a great bluegrass festival. Festival on the Lake is August 13th and Halloween Spooktacular will be October 22nd.
Jolly Thursdays, starting June 2nd, is a weekly children’s educational program put on by the Campbell County Public Library. The park also offers Movies in the Park in June. For more information, visit the park’s web site at www.ajjollypark.com.
