Important message from Dayton, Ky school superintendent, Jay Brewer

This message is from Jay Brewer, Superintendent of Dayton Independent Schools: 

Dayton School LogoAs many of you are aware our school district received a threat that concerned our district administrators and city police department enough to decide to close school for today, Tuesday, February 16. The Dayton Police Department has been successful in identifying the source of the threat and has now apprehended a juvenile suspect and has them in custody. Dayton Police Department has also worked with regional police departments to determine that all school buildings are safe and secure for our students and staff at this time. 


We want to let everyone know that all evening games for tonight will be played as scheduled and school will resume tomorrow, Wednesday, February 17. Student and staff security will continue to be our first priority.

Tonight’s Varsity and JV girls’ basketball games vs. Lexington Sayre have been cancelled. Please remember Dayton Independent will have school on Wednesday, February 17.

  1. Good job to all involved. It is great to know that this young person is being held accountable. Hopefully, he or she will learn that it’s not nice to mess with Dayton School! Thanks!
