IMG_1601If you missed the Grand Reopening of Tropics then you missed some good food, drinks and friends. Located at Manhattan Harbour Yacht Club in Dayton, Kentucky, Tropics sits on top of a barge, which makes for charm and beautiful scenery of the Historic Ohio River.

Tropics is surprisingly clean and cozy. It’s warm colors and natural woods make you feel as though you are in a beautifully appointed Yacht, which is the idea of course, but Tropics really does a nice job of it.

Debbie and Soop Pfetzer took over the reigns one month ago. It was a major undertaking to get Tropics up and running in a month. The liquor license is only one week old. Debbie and Soop Pfetzer lease the bar from property owner Mark Stark and they are all putting a lot of time and energy into revitalizing the Manhattan Harbour’s 400 boat slip marina and entertainment complex. Dredging is a daily occurrence taking place to combat the silty river bed that crept up under the marina during last years high storms and subsequent high river. The plan being to have the entire complex back in shape by Spring.

Tropics is a place for everyone to come and enjoy the Ohio River, great food and drinks. Tropics acquired a well known chef and native of Dayton “Sarge”, a great cook and friendly guy who takes pride in the food and making sure people feel comfortable and enjoying themselves.

Tropics is a destination point in the Winter and a great hang out for the other seasons. Easily accessible by car or boat and if you are living in the new Manhattan Harbour Development on the Ohio River, then you can easily walk down the flood wall and directly into Tropics.

While I was there I had dinner and the staff was very friendly and eager to know if the food turned out well. The food is great and the atmosphere is somewhere between a bar/restaurant and a yacht.

Tropics also has space for banquets and private parties. There is a complete lower level meant for private events of all types.

Tropics does plan on having live entertainment on the weekends as well as a New Years Eve party $10.00 a person which includes party favors, champagne
toast at midnight and live music from Shifting Gears.

They are located at 1301 4th Avenue in Dayton. Stop by and check it out, everyone there is friendly and willing to talk or just come down and watch a game and enjoy hanging out on the picturesque Ohio River in historic, Dayton, Kentucky.
