A hot, summer weekend didn’t stop the folks in Bellevue from having fun. First there was the 10th annual Bellevue Block Party on Foote Avenue. Organized by Bellevue resident, Harry aka Casey Casebolt, the block party boasts fun for people of all ages. The street was blocked off for traffic so kids could freely roam around and ride bikes or any other wheeled contraptions. There was music, face painting, food and swimming…as much swimming that can be done in kiddie pools. On this 90 plus degree day, the kids needed the pools to cool off. One father decided to drench his daughter with a hose after she got him with a squirt gun.
The Bellevue Dayton Fire Department showed up to hand out helmets and stickers to the kids. Later in the evening, the fun started to rev up with corn hole tournaments for the adults. Dancing in the streets isn’t uncommon either! Casey said that in the 10 years the party has been going on, “We have never had an incident. If there ever were one, I would shut down the block party.” The people there were just out to have fun with their neighbors on a hot summer evening. One street resident has their whole family come up from Louisville to participate.
At Bellevue Beach Park, there was a concert. The entertainment was a band called The Gamut. They have a female lead singer who was quite talented. The band played Journey, Bon Jovi and Guns and Roses, to name a few. They are from Cincinnati and they play at venues like Belterra Casino and Pirate’s Cove but they are also opening for Kansas at Sycamore Township’s festival this summer.
The setting for this concert was perfect. The river, the riverboats and the beautiful sunset were an unbeatable backdrop for this concert. The concert was free and a good-sized crowd showed up for the show. People came armed with bug spray, coolers and lawn chairs. All are welcome to these concerts and even though many people in the area could walk to the park, there was ample parking for those that choose to drive. If you missed this concert, there are others scheduled on the Second Saturday of the every month in the summer. The next concert at Bellevue Beach Park is July 11th at 7:00 PM featuring Blue Honey from Nashville. Be sure to come and enjoy the fun without having to get in your car!
