April Message from Mayor Ed Riehl

Hello to all. Well spring seems to be slow in arriving. We’ve had a few warm sunny days, but have yet to string a lot of them together. The rains have come along with early flooding. I know I’m looking forward to when the trees will start blooming and the grass beginning to green up. Our Public Services Department has been hard at work cleaning up after the spring floods that left behind a muddy mess in the Beach Park. Please be careful in this area until the park is brought back into shape.

April is National Physical Wellness month, so with those warmer temperatures now upon us we can all get out and walk, run, and exercise not only this month but for life. April is also the month to start volunteering. There are many opportunities throughout Bellevue – get involved and help make Bellevue even better. Our civic organizations are springing into the season. Don’t forget to make your reservation for the Friends of Bellevue’s Scholarship FUNd Jazz River Cruise luncheon on April 26. The Bellevue Neighborhood Association has been out planting early so we have spring flowers in our street planters. Their annual membership drive will be kicking off soon. Look for your application on your door the first week of May.

With the growing season almost upon please take a few moments to remember a few simple steps this year. First, if you see high grass or weeds don’t hesitate to call the city offices or use our online feedback form. Second, please take time to sweep up your grass and weed clippings instead of blowing them into the street. Those clippings end up in the storm water system and wreaks havoc on our aging infrastructure. Better yet, compost them for a greener Bellevue. Speaking of being green, don’t forget Earth Day will occur on April 22, 2015. Let’s all do our part for a greener environment. Also please clean up after your four-legged friend’s walk around town. Remember it is the law! If you find yourself without a bag available, please take advantage of the disposable bag stations located throughout the city.

Soon it will be time to kick off our summer concert series at the Bellevue Beach Park. Please check out the dates and entertainment schedule on our web site at for complete details. Another event the City is hosting is the Jewish Hospital Mobile Mammography unit will be at the Callahan Center on May 28, 2015 from 9:30am until 11:30am. Please call 513-686-3300 to schedule your screening.

Shop Bellevue!!! Events are heating up like the weather. Please come down to Fairfield Avenue and shop local and keep those economic dollars here at home. Bellevue Renaissance and the businesses have great events planned throughout the year. Please take time to come down and shop and eat on The Avenue. May will be a murder mystery, “Who Killed the Postman” that’s going to be a whole lot of fun. And, on Saturday, May 16 Bellevue Blossoms returns to the Avenue.

With the warmer weather just around the corner, outdoor project planning season is here. Don’t forget to call city staff for assistance when planning your projects and to see if a building or COA permit are needed to complete your project successfully. We will be glad to help so please call 859-434-8888 or stop by with any questions you may have. Enjoy your spring season and I hope to see many of you out on the street this spring, exercising, or volunteering to help keep Bellevue the great place we all know and love.

  1. why is there never an article from the mayor of Dayton. We have a great newspaper with the BDSUN and the Dayton Community News. There’s room for two.
