Bellevue, Kentucky is starting a new “Dads and Kids” program and will be kicking it off on March 17th at 6:00 P.M. at Grandview Elementary School. This program called WATCHD.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) the father involvement initiative of the National Center For Fathering. This program was created in 1988 and is in over 10 states. Students that have a dependable father or father-figure in their lives have a better chance of graduating and have a better Grade Point Average. For children living in poverty, these relationships also decrease a child’s chances of getting involved with drugs and other criminal activity.
Each year thousands of men volunteer at their child’s school through the WATCHD.O.G.S. program. More male role models are needed in the school systems since every year, the number of male teachers decreases. The men in the program get to know what their child and their child’s friends are learning in school.
