Athlete of the Month– Elizabeth Masminster
Joe Workman, Dayton High School Health & Physical Education and Athletic Director said this about Elizabeth, “On February 20th, 2015 regional bowling champion Elizabeth Masminster competed at the State Bowling Championships at Collins Eastland Lanes in Lexington, Ky. Elizabeth competed against 32 of the top bowlers in Kentucky. At the end of the day, Elizabeth brought a 6th place finish back home to Dayton. Elizabeth was very excited to have placed in the top 8 after finishing 14th her sophomore season and hopes that next year she will be able to advance into the top 4 where she would have an opportunity to compete head-to-head for a state title.”
Workman gave an additional Player of the Month and special recognition to Matt Grimme. “As the month of February comes to an end, so does the basketball season. Senior Matt Grimme is our Athlete of the Month for what he has accomplished over that last month of the season. Matt played the whole month like a young man who wasn’t ready for his senior season to end. He posted double digits in scoring and rebounding several times in February and ended up leading our team in both categories for the year. He also became a feared defender protecting the rim for us, recording multiple blocked shots in all 8 games. His career high coming in the last win of the season against Covington Latin where he had 8 blocked shots! In that game he had 15 points and 10 rebounds to go with his 8 blocks, almost recording his first triple-double of his career. Because of his impressive play this season, Matt earned All-Conference team and Defensive Player of the Year honors for the NKAC Division 3 conference. Matt was also our team’s speaking captain for most of the year and even though he is soft spoken, he led by example and showed everyone how working hard day in and day out can get you great results in the end. He has also maintained above a 3.0 GPA for the 3rdquarter, showing that his hard work continues in the classroom as well.”
