Call for Volunteers to help program that defeats teen heroin addiction

Let me introduce myself. My name is Sherry Chatman. I live in Dayton and I am a member and representative of Dayton Bellevue Christian Church.

My priority for our community is to put an end to the Heroin epidemic we have been facing for much too long. It is my passion and my mission to prevent drug abuse and to make resources available to those who need help with addition.

Shari Hennekes, from The Landing Ministry in Alexandria reached out to me about possibly starting a similar program in Campbell County.

Together we reached out to the community for support and held a meeting on December 16th 2015.

Several churches and both police departments were present and stated that they were on board and would do everything they could to help support this program. We all agreed a program like this is needed and will be successful with support for our community.

What we are asking for:

We are in need of a facility, which Justine Ryan has offered the Dayton YMCA. But that is just one option. We would like a location easily assessable to both Bellevue and Dayton. The program would be held at a location for 2 hours on one night a week. The curriculum is created specifically for teens (7th-12th grade) who are dealing with: A troubled family, friendships, feelings of acceptance or rejection, romantic relationships, pain and/or addiction.

We need people that have experienced those types of issues to volunteer their time (2 hours a week) at the facility to reach out to those who will be in the program.

We also need donated baked goods or snacks for those 2 hours one night a week.
